I am NOT a sheepdog

I was killing time today at work when I should have been working. Surprise? No? Darn. You know me too well. Anyways, I came across a reference to Lieutenant Colonel Dave Grossman, U.S. Army (Ret.) doing some real work, at work, last week which lead me to this old article on Blackfive:
I Only Hang With Sheepdogs Posted By Blackfive • [October 08, 2004] The following essay (an extract from the book, ‘On Combat’) was written by Lieutenant Colonel Dave Grossman, U.S. Army (Ret.) Director, Killology Research Group (www.killology.com). Colonel Grossman is a somewhat controversial figure – he authored the book – “On Killing: The Psychological Cost of Learning to Kill in War and Society” – a very interesting topic that our politically correct society would rarely discuss. (Thanks to Tom and Mark for sending the article)
I still love that article. But it got me to thinking … Am I a sheepdog? Where do I fall on the continum between sheep and sheep dog nowadays? Then it hit me. I am not a sheepdog. I am not a sheep. God is the Shepherd and I’m the son of the Shepherd who tickles the sheepdog during free time reminding the sheepdog just how much fun it really is to be the sheepdog when all is said and done. If I have to I’ll pick up three smooth stones for my sling shot and follow the sheepdog into the forest. But I’m not a sheepdog. Think RangerUp! has a t-shirt for that? ~DBS
